Administrator Message

As we step into our 42nd year of caring for this community, I’m reminded every day of why we do what we do. At the heart of Pine Grove is a deep commitment to dignity, compassion, and recognizing the unique journey of every resident who calls this place home.

It’s an honour to walk alongside our residents and their families—to listen, to support, and to celebrate the small and meaningful moments that make life here so special.

Looking ahead, I’m filled with hope and gratitude. Together, we’ll continue building a home where people feel seen, valued, and truly cared for.

– Michelle Virtue

Applying for Residency

The admissions process is coordinated through New Brunswick Social Development, and this is the essential first step when applying to any licensed nursing home in the province. Social Development is responsible for assessing eligibility for long-term care, placing individuals on the provincial waitlist, and facilitating placement based on care needs and availability. No admissions to Pine Grove can happen without first going through this government process. While it may take time, our team is here to support you at every stage once a placement is confirmed.

To apply, contact the Department of Social Development (1-833-733-7835) or connect with your social worker if you are already a client of the Long Term Care Program.

The Staff from the Department will coordinate the application process once determined eligible.

5 Steps to Admission

  • Contact Social Development (1-833-733-7835) to begin the eligibility assessment for long-term care placement.

  • Once approved, you’ll be placed on the provincial waitlist. When a space becomes available at Pine Grove, you will be notified by the nursing home.

  • When your expected admission date is near, Pine Grove will reach out to request completed paperwork and prepare for your arrival.

  • Once a bed is available, transitions often happen quickly (within 48 hours), in accordance with government placement guidelines.

  • On admission day, please plan for an arrival time around 11 a.m. Staff will guide you through each step, and you’ll be introduced to each department to ensure a smooth transition into our community.

About Our Rooms

  • Pine Grove consists of 22 semi-private and 24 private rooms. New admissions are typically admitted to a semi-private room; however, once admitted transfers to a private room may be possible. If a private room becomes available, it is at the discretion of management to determine if other priority needs exist. Please see the Director of Care for further information. Any costs associated with the move are the responsibility of the resident.

  • The resident and family are encouraged to personalize the resident’s room. However, as the safety of the residents and staff is paramount, the amount and location of furniture may be limited.  Chairs should be no larger than 30 x 30” at the base and 42” high.  Chairs are to be stationary, not rocking or gliding for safety. Our All The Right Moves team will work with the family to balance safety, comfort and convenience. Safety is first and foremost. For further information, please contact the Rehabilitation Assistant or Director of Care.

  • As Pine Grove has limited space, we are unable to accommodate powered wheel chairs, based on the Fredericton Fire Marshall’s determination.

  • The resident is responsible for making arrangements with Bell Aliant should the resident wish to have a private phone. The resident is responsible for all costs, including costs to transfer the phone should a room change be requested.

  • Cable T.V. is available in each room and is billed monthly to the resident. Please notify the Accountant if you wish to have cable connected or disconnected. Televisions must be inspected and installed by our maintenance staff.  The size of the screen is limited to a maximum of 32” diagonally. Televisions must be placed near the cable outlet and attached to the wall with a T.V. mount.

    Currently……………………………………………………$25.00/month

  • Electrical items must be CSA approved and inspected by our maintenance personnel before first use. You can drop them off at the business office. Electric blankets or electric heating pads are not permitted and, due to food safety issues, a small fridge is prohibited. The use of extension cords is also prohibited, and families are responsible for purchasing a surge protector power bar if required.
